It’s easy to immerse yourself in the sparkle season in this beautiful cathedral city. With enchanting displays, magical events, a wealth of festive entertainment and bustling markets, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Stock up on hand-crafted gifts at one of the local Christmas markets, enjoy a traditional pantomime or candlelit concert and be amazed by the spectacular sight of an illuminated Lincoln Castle.

Visit Lincoln’s Christmas Markets

When in Lincolnshire, a visit to one of the many local Christmas markets is a must.  Find the perfect handmade gift for your loved ones and stock up on local artisan makes and bakes as you explore some of the county’s most beautiful locations.

From the Lincoln Makers Market on Castle Hill and the coastal Mablethorpe Christmas Artisan Market to the grandiose Normanby Hall Christmas Market and Gainsborough Old Hall Market there are plenty of festive fayres to explore.

 

Take in a Christmas Pantomime

Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas in Lincoln with a trip to the panto. With its origins dating back to the Middle Ages, the Christmas pantomime is a time-honoured tradition. A brilliant way to mark the end of the year and get together with family and friends, a good laugh is guaranteed.

This Christmas, take your pick from The New Theatre Royal’s Snow White, running from 3rd December to 5th January, Grimsby Auditorium’s Dick Whittington meets the Pirates of the Caribbean, running from 7th-29th December and Blackfriars Art Centre’s Beauty and The Beast from 14th-23rd December.

 

Explore the Lincoln Castle Illuminations

Tis the season to sparkle and shine and we can’t think of a prettier way than by exploring the magical Lincoln Castle Illuminations.

Marvel at the fairytale lights during your Christmas in Lincoln, they embellish the castle grounds, walk down Candy Cane Lane and climb the medieval walls to view the sparkling cathedral city. You can board the mini Polar Express and enjoy traditional fairground rides too. There are local food and drink stalls and your four-legged friend can enjoy the fun on the dog-friendly evenings.

Stop by the Carols by Candlelight at Lincoln Cathedral

Believe in the magic of Christmas and listen to the ethereal voices of Lincoln Cathedral Choir as they perform an evening of popular Christmas carols in the Cathedral’s atmospheric nave. 

You can enjoy a pre-concert meal at Lincoln Cathedral Cafe before the event. The carol service takes place on 10th and 11th December, book your tickets here. 

 

Make a Festive Wreath

Brush up your craft skills and have a holly, jolly Christmas in Lincoln learning how to make a beautiful festive wreath to enhance your home. With workshops for adults and children taking place at Lincoln’s International Bomber Command Centre, everyone can join in the fun.  The workshops are running on December 11th and 14th. Enjoy a Candlelit Cathedral Concert

Lincoln Cathedral hosts a range of glittering candlelit concerts to bring you comfort and joy this Christmas season.  From a live big band and Buble tribute, a West End cast performing favourite Christmas hits and a Christmas at the Movies Concert, you’ll be jingling all the way home.

 

Join the Lincoln Santa Fun Run and Walk

You’d better watch out this Christmas in Lincoln because Santa Claus is coming to town, 2000 of them in fact! Christmas usually involves a little overindulgence so get into shape in the run-up and participate in the annual Lincoln Santa Fun Run and Walk. Stroll along the Christmas Lights Walking Tour

Step into Christmas in Lincoln with this free, festive walking tour, taking in the city of Lincoln's spectacularly sparkly Christmas lights.  Beginning at St Paul’s Square, you’ll meander through the Bailgate and Castle Square ending at the beautiful Cornhill Quarter, learning about each area’s history as you walk.

Tours take place on the city’s late-night shopping evenings of 5th, 12th and 19th December at 5.30 pm. Book your place here.
